After Ferrari, Lewis Hamilton has also responded to the rumors about his future. According to Lewis Hamilton, contract talks with Mercedes are in the final straight. According to Hamilton, the new contract is almost ready and it looks like he will also race for Mercedes next year.
Earlier today, Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur had already stated that no talks were being held with Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton himself also said today that contract talks with Mercedes are at an advanced stage and it will probably be a matter of weeks before the new contract is signed.
“I think as you negotiate a contract, there will be rumors all the time,” said Hamilton; “Unless you hear from me, they are and will remain rumors.”
Hamilton said that contract talks with Mercedes are in full swing. However, for the first time in years he does not conduct those discussions himself, it is his ‘team’ that conducts the talks with Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff.
“My team works very closely with Toto behind the scenes,” said Hamilton. “We are almost at the final stage of the contract.”
“I have a team that focuses on that so that I can do my job. So I’m in a much better position than I used to be because I remember doing my contract negotiations myself, which was very stressful. I’m glad I don’t have to do it myself.”
