Sergio Perez is currently in negotiations for a new contract with Red Bull, with his father claiming he is the most coveted driver in Formula 1.
The agreement between Perez and Red Bull is set to expire at the end of the year, and during the Japanese Grand Prix, the Mexican driver hinted that there may be clarity on his future soon. Despite having a strong start to the season, Red Bull is also considering other options such as Daniel Ricciardo, Yuki Tsunoda, and Liam Lawson.
If Antonio Perez, Sergio’s father, has his say, fans could expect to see his son racing in Formula 1 for another decade.
“We will have Checo in F1 for another 10 years,” Antonio Perez told ‘Relevo’. “He has many options and is currently the most sought-after driver in F1, with more sponsors than Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton combined.”
“Companies from all around the world are eager to work with him; Sergio Perez is the ultimate promoter and consistently sells out merchandise in no time.”
Reports suggest that Dr. Helmut Marko, a key figure at Red Bull, was pushing for Perez to sign a three-year extension with the team, but this offer was declined. Perez had to wait until the Monaco Grand Prix this year to secure his current contract for 2022, a race in which he emerged victorious.
Red Bull’s team principal, Christian Horner, has also stated that there is no rush to announce who will be partnering Max Verstappen at the team for the upcoming seasons.
