After the sprint race, the stewards decided to impose a severe penalty on Fernando Alonso, namely a ten-second time penalty and no fewer than three penalty points.
During the sprint race, a collision occurred between Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz. Sainz attacked Alonso but the two-time world champion defended very hard and drove his compatriot off the track. There was even a collision after which Alonso eventually had to give up.
Carlos Sainz lost a few places due to the duel and instead of taking third place, Sainz even had to settle for fifth place at the end of the sprint race. The two Spaniards had to report to the stewards after the sprint race, who decided to severely punish Fernando Alonso.
Fernando Alonso received a ten-second penalty for the incident with Sainz. Given his assignment, Alonso does not suffer any disadvantage from this punishment. However, Alonso also received three penalty points on his super license from the stewards. In total, Alonso now has six penalty points, if a driver collects twelve penalty points in a period of twelve months, a race suspension will follow.
