In recent years, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has been discussed several times and the circuit near Barcelona is in danger of disappearing from the F1 calendar. With the new agreement between the circuit and Formula 1, the future of Formula 1 in Spain is assured until at least 2026.
The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is sixth on the F1 calendar next year in 2022. Under the new multi-year agreement, the facilities ahead of the race in May 2022 will also undergo a major upgrade. This was a requirement for obtaining a new agreement.
In addition to an F1 race, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will also host one of two multi-day tests in preparation for the 2022 F1 season. The teams will then drive completely new cars and will test in both Spain and Bahrain.
