The Volkswagen ID.5 is an ID.4 with a coupe roof and a spoiler. And with that we can actually close this news item, because otherwise both electric models are almost the same. Due to its smoother appearance, the ID.5 has a better streamline than the ID.4. According to Volkswagen, that contributes to favorable consumption, but you should take that comment with a grain of salt. The Volkswagen ID.4 and ID.5 with 77 kWh battery have exactly the same WLTP range of 520 kilometers.
Volkswagen ID.5 can only be ordered with a 77 kWh battery
You can order the ID.4 with a 52 kWh battery and 148 or 170 hp. The ID.5 is only available with the larger 77 kWh battery, with the Pro version having 174 hp, the Pro Performance reaching 204 hp and the sporty GTX just under 300 hp. The latter has two electric motors and four-wheel drive, the other two variants have to make do with one electric motor on the rear axle.
Despite the coupe roof, slightly more luggage space in the ID.5
You don’t have to worry about a lack of luggage space in the ID.5. As standard, it even has a slightly larger trunk than the ID.4 (549 versus 543 liters). However, that advantage disappears when the rear seat folds down, because then you can stow a few liters less in the ID.5 (1561 compared to 1575 liters). In the second row of seats of the ID.5, the headroom is somewhat limited, although according to Volkswagen it is only 1.2 centimeters apart.
