There was a plan on the table to introduce a new points system in Formula 1, but the F1 Commission has put the plan aside for the time being.
Currently, during an F1 race, the first ten cars receive points, which in itself is an expansion compared to years ago. Yet there currently seems to be a kind of ‘division’ in Formula 1 between the first five teams in the championship and the last five. After all, the majority of the points are achieved by the first five teams, while the rest had to compete for the figurative ‘crumbs’.
There was therefore a plan on the table to adjust the points system in Formula 1. The intention was to award points to the first twelve drivers during a race in the future. The F1 Commission discussed the proposal to adjust the points system in Geneva today, but it will not be introduced for the time being. It has been agreed to first further analyze and discuss the proposed changes again during the F1 Commission in July.
