Under the skin, the Subaru Solterra and Toyota bZ4X are completely the same. Both will be available in two versions: with front-wheel drive and 204 hp / 265 Nm and with 4WD and 218 hp / 336 Nm. They are limited to a top speed of 160 km/h, have one-pedal driving and a 71.4 kWh battery. The range is about 450 kilometers. If you hang the Subaru or Toyota on a 150 kW charger, it will be 80 percent full again after half an hour.
Subaru Solterra doesn’t have that crazy Tesla steering wheel
There are no differences in the interior either. Subaru and Toyota opt for a Peugeot-like setup, with a digital cockpit that extends above the steering wheel. Toyota optionally supplies a half-tiller handle in the bZ4X, a bit like Tesla does with the new Model S and Model X. At Subaru we don’t read anything about this and we don’t see the strange steering wheel in the press photos.

In fact, the only thing different about the Subaru is the appearance of the plug-in SUV. The Toyota bZ4X has a fairly shapeless nose, while the Solterra has a hexagon on the nose, a shape reminiscent of the grille of the fuel Subaru. Furthermore, the Solterra adds a set of round fog pits and differently stylized headlights and taillights. The new Subaru will hit the market in mid-2022.
