It took years before Formula 1 regained a foothold in America and another F1 race was organized, but in recent years the sport has become increasingly popular in the United States. This is also apparent from the many atmospheric images of the circuit.

Nice of course for the photographers and cameramen, but the F1 drivers mainly want to drive it as quickly as possible over the Circuit of The Americas, especially with qualifying and the race in mind.

And they also went as fast as possible at Red Bull, at least the lap times of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez proved that, who were literally only one thousandth of a second apart halfway through the session.

A little later in the session, Sergio Perez, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen went even faster at one point, but only Perez’s time remained. At the Circuit of The Americas, too, strict compliance with the so-called ‘track limits’ is strictly enforced and that was also the reason why Hamilton and Verstappen saw their lap times cancelled.
In the end, it was also Perez who set the fastest time at the end of the session, ahead of a surprising Carlos Sainz who set the second fastest time in the Ferrari. Title rivals Verstappen and Hamilton had to be satisfied with the third and sixth time after their lap times had been deleted.
