Formula E, together with the FIA, has presented a new generation of cars for Formula E. It is striking that the new generation of cars surpasses the current F1 cars in a certain area.
About ten years ago, Formula E was founded, the ‘electric counterpart’ of Formula 1. For years there was some ridicule about the racing class, but in recent years it has been appointed by the FIA as an official world championship. Formula E was sometimes called the ‘dirty bin of Formula 1’ because there are so many former F1 pilots active in it, but the racing class has grown into a full-fledged racing class in recent years.
In addition to the driver field, the Formula E cars also evolved. At the very beginning, cars had to be changed during the race because the battery would not last a race. In the meantime, the same car is raced from start to finish and the cars have become increasingly powerful and efficient.
The Gen3 car was put into use in 2022, but in the meantime there has already been a further development of that car, the ‘Gen3 Evo’, which was unveiled by Formula E and the FIA and will be raced from next year.
In some areas the Gen3 Evo can more than compete with the current generation of F1 cars and in some areas Formula E even surpasses F1. The new Formula E car has a top speed of 321 km/h, no higher than an F1 car, but the Gen3 Evo does accelerate faster than an F1 car.
The Gen3 Evo can go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.86 seconds, faster than an F1 car. The new upgrades compared to the Gen3 reportedly provide a 2 percent performance gain. The car is faster, more powerful and more agile than the previous generation. The Gen3 Evo is also the most efficient Formula car ever, thanks to an electric motor that achieves an efficiency of more than 90 percent. By comparison, classic combustion engines achieve an efficiency of 40 percent.
The Gen3 Evo Formula E car is also the first CO2-neutral racing car in the world and Formula E will also be the first CO2-neutral sport in the world.
