Carlos Sainz (MINI John Cooper Works Rally) has won the second stage in the Rally of Andalusia. The Spaniard was 1:08 faster than Yazeed Al Rajhi (Toyota Hilux Overdrive). Nasser Al-Attiyah (Toyota Hilux Overdrive) finished third at 1:15. In the standings, Al-Attiyah remains in the lead with 1:26 ahead of Carlos Sainz. Guillaume de Mevius and Tom Colsoul (OT3) finished sixth on Friday. In the standings the duo moves up to sixth place.
The second stage in the Andalusia rally was one of 339 km. After Thursday’s win, Al-Attiyah was the first to go into the desert on Friday and was at a disadvantage. “He had quite a bit of loose sand, which caused him less grip,” said Jean-Marc Fortin, team manager of Overdrive Racing. “But all in all, he managed to limit the damage. The victory for the day went to Carlos Sainz who started third. On Saturday, the roles were reversed and Sainz is the first to take the track and Al-Attiyah enjoys a cleaner course. Tactically, the cards are good for the penultimate stage. ”
Guillaume de Mevius again made a positive impression. “After the first split, he even had the second time overall. It is simply amazing what he does with such a small cart. Together with Tom, he has moved up to sixth place and is in the lead in his class. I am pleased that Guillaume and Tom are doing so well. This completely Belgian project makes my heart beat just that little bit faster ”, concludes Jean-Marc Fortin.
Grégoire de Mevius and André Leyh (Henrard Dunbee) finished 14th. In the position after the second stage, the duo moves up to 12th place.
A stage of 311 km awaits the participants on Saturday. The Andalusia rally ends on Sunday afternoon.
