Michael Schumacher
A friend of the Schumacher family secretly took photos of Michael Schumacher after the seven-time world champion had a skiing accident and was being treated by a team of doctors. The so-called ‘family friend’ then tried to sell the photos for about 1 million British pounds.
In 2013, Michael Schumacher made a dramatic fall while skiing in Méribel, France. Fortunately, Schumacher wore a helmet, but nevertheless the seven-time world champion hovered between life and death for days. After waking up from his coma, Schumacher has been rehabilitating for years.
Since then, the family has been trying to shield Michael Schumacher’s health as best as possible. Six years ago, however, photos of Michael Schumacher almost leaked. After all, a ‘friend of the family’ would have secretly taken photos while Michael Schumacher was in bed at his home in Switzerland.
According to ‘Express’, the ‘friend’ in question would have offered the photos to various photo agencies and media in Europe for about 1 million British pounds. German prosecutors confirmed, according to ‘Express’, that there had been “an invasion of his privacy”.
It is indeed remarkable that no photos of Michael Schumacher have ever been leaked and published in the nine years since the skiing accident. The exact reason why the photos were not published in 2016 is not known, but there are undoubtedly serious legal risks involved.
The Schumacher family shields every now and then with the right to privacy and also regularly threatens with lawsuits. That seems so far to have a big enough deterrent effect to keep Schumacher’s medical condition almost completely private.
