Not only the relationship between the teams of Mercedes and Red Bull has seriously cooled down after last weekend. For Jos Verstappen, Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff, with whom he had a friendly relationship, no longer has to come for coffee.
Toto Wolff and Jos Verstappen have a friendly relationship, they were regularly spotted chatting in the paddock and they regularly visited each other. But after the reaction of the Mercedes motorsport boss to the incident between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, Wolff no longer needs to contact, according to Verstappen Senior.
“You don’t celebrate your victory so exuberantly while your colleague is still in hospital,” Jos Verstappen told ‘F1-Insider.’
“And as for Toto Wolff, we’ve always had a good relationship over several years. He kept calling and smearing syrup on our beards, I think everyone knows why. He didn’t get in touch yesterday. Now he doesn’t have to call anymore.”
On Sunday, Wolff said he was overjoyed with Lewis Hamilton’s ninety-ninth victory, knowing that Verstappen only had some bruises from his crash. He also took the liberty of responding to Red Bull’s comments, where Helmut Marko claimed Hamilton had crossed a line.
“If you read the comments on his driving style and the incident, Lewis is basically the polar opposite of someone who drives dirty,” said Wolff.
“I think he’s a sportsman, we haven’t seen any major incidents with him yet. That’s why he stays calm, as you’ve already seen, he doesn’t care much about the incident.”
That promises for the rest of the F1 season…
