Skoda’s designers have been busy. In addition to the updated Scala, they have also given the Skoda Kamiq a cosmetic intervention. We drove with the only petrol engine that is still available, the 1.0 TSI with 115 hp.
With the facelift, the 1.5 TSI with four cylinders and 150 hp has disappeared. At least in the Netherlands, in Belgium it is still in the price list, as is a less powerful 1.0 TSI with 95 hp. To refresh your memory: the Kamiq is the smallest SUV Skoda. It is positioned below the Karoq, which will get an electric successor this year under the name Elroq.
Car with a high seat
The compact SUV shares its platform with the Skoda Scala, but the car itself is shorter and higher. A car with a high seat. Drivers whose muscles are no longer so flexible will appreciate this. We start every day with a handstand and a double somersault and prefer the Scala. It is closer to the asphalt and therefore drives better. Although you cannot possibly attribute poor handling to the Kamiq.

Lively, but not a sporty animal
The 1.0 TSI petrol engine makes a lively impression, but does not unleash the sporty animal in you. He sprints to a hundred in ten civilized seconds and at high speeds the energy is a bit gone. However, the blown three-cylinder engine picks up nicely from low speeds without any form of electrical support. The engine noise also stays neatly in the background; Only when you accelerate sharply does it sound a bit rough. The six-speed manual transmission shifts accurately and the steering offers sufficient feeling. Exactly what the average motorist wants.

Skoda Kamiq is exemplary spacious
The space on the rear seat is exemplary in this segment with more than sufficient leg and head room. The door opening is large enough to comfortably get in and out. And you also have an excellent seat in the front with sufficient freedom of movement. The Monte Carlo version has beautiful sports seats that support your body well, but we also have little to complain about in the less expensive versions.
“We are happy with the 8.25-inch central touchscreen that is now standard.”
With the new digital instruments, the Skoda Kamiq is more digital than ever. There are even two types of screens for behind the wheel: a normal one and a large one. You can adjust the layout of the large instruments to your own taste. We are also happy with the 8.25-inch central touchscreen that is now standard. The menu structure is clear and the software responds quickly. A large version of this touch screen is also for sale. That’s what you get when you order the navigation system.
