Vivo’s X100 Ultra will be officially released on Monday, May 13, and it has been generating a lot of buzz. A Vivo executive mentioned that it will be a “professional camera that can also make calls.” Today, we have some newly leaked details about its camera system, and while the claim of a “professional camera” may be a bit of an exaggeration, it seems to be shaping up as one of the most impressive camera phones ever made, earning its Thanos-codename reference (Marvel fans will understand).
The main camera will use the 50 MP Sony Lytia LYT-900 1-inch type sensor, while the ultra-wide camera will feature a 50 MP Sony Lytia LYT-600 sensor. The selfie camera will be a 50 MP Samsung ISOCELL JN1 with support for 4K@60fps video recording.
The standout feature will undoubtedly be the 200 MP periscope zoom camera, using a Samsung ISOCELL HP9 sensor co-developed with Vivo. This will be the largest sensor ever used for a periscope telephoto camera. The HP9 improves light sensitivity by 12% compared to Samsung’s existing HP3, thanks to Vivo’s technology that optimizes pixel light sensitivity.
The lens will be made using fluorite glass, the industry’s strongest low-dispersion glass material, enhancing image quality. This material is also used in Sony’s new G Master lenses, which is not surprising given the involvement of Zeiss with both Vivo and Sony. Previously, this material was only used in professional cameras, as mentioned by the Vivo executive.
Regarding image stabilization, the telephoto camera is expected to lead the class, featuring OIS and exclusive software algorithms to compensate for shake.
In addition to the impressive camera setup, the X100 Ultra will be a top-of-the-line device powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. It will have a “2K” Samsung-made AMOLED display and a 5,500 mAh battery with support for 80W wired and 30W wireless charging.
Expected to start at CNY 6,699 (about £614 or €705) for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage version, the top version with 16GB/1TB could go for CNY 8,499 (£780 or €898). While an international launch is planned, it may happen a bit later, similar to the X100 and X100 Pro releases.
