According to TrendForce’s latest report, Apple is expected to ship between 4.5 and 5 million OLED iPad Pros this year, including both the 11-inch and 13-inch models. This projection is lower than the sales volume of their LCD- and mini-LED-equipped predecessors.
TrendForce highlights that the shift to AMOLED technology on medium-sized devices represents a significant milestone for the industry.
The report predicts that AMOLED tablets will reach 9 million units by 2024, accounting for approximately 7% of the tablet market.
Aside from sales projections, the technological advancements in the displays of the new iPad Pros are noteworthy. Apple has implemented “tandem OLED displays,” which consist of two OLED panels layered on top of each other to enhance brightness. These displays offer up to 1,000 nits of full-screen brightness for SDR content and up to 1,600 nits for HDR.
TrendForce emphasizes that the tandem technology serves as a crucial interim solution to enhance both performance and lifespan until OLED efficiency breakthroughs are realized in the near future.
The report also indicates that while OLED panels are intricate and challenging to manufacture, especially at this scale, advancements in capacity and improved yields are anticipated post-2026.
