After two and a half years without an F1 victory and the difficult situation in which Mercedes currently finds itself, Lewis Hamilton says that he wants to compete for F1 victories and world titles again as soon as possible, that he is tired of competing in the midfield and not at the to be at the absolute top.
“I think everyone in the team wants this to be a great year,” Hamilton told CBS. “Everyone in the factory has worked so hard, certainly not less than before.”
“For me, this whole ‘journey’ is very emotional because I love this team so much. I’m not leaving because I’m not satisfied. I’m not leaving because there were relationship problems. Mercedes has supported me since I was 13 years old so I love the brand. I like the people. They have supported me through thick and thin. It is certainly a strange transition at the moment.”
Hamilton is having a very difficult season for the third year in a row and has not won a single race since the end of 2021. That feels very heavy for Hamilton.
“It’s been very tough,” Hamilton admits. “Obviously we are here to win and when you don’t win then your perspective has to be adjusted. It’s all about chasing, about improving. It’s about getting everything done. How can we achieve improvements. How can we get back to where we want to be and improve faster than the others?”
“I actually really enjoyed that situation. But it has been like this for three years now and then you have had enough, I want us to be back where we belong.”
