Sharp is expanding its portfolio with two new devices – the Aquos R9 and Aquos wish4, both of which will initially be exclusive to Japan with planned expansion to markets such as Taiwan, Indonesia, and Singapore later.
Both phones feature minimalist designs developed by Miyake Design, and the Aquos 9 again takes a camera-first approach with its trio of 50MP sensors co-developed with Leica.
Sharp Aquos R9
The Aquos R9 packs a 50 MP main camera with a 1/1.55-inch main sensor, f/1.9 aperture, Leica Hektor camera lens, and a 23mm equivalent focal length. It is joined by a 13mm-equivalent 50MP ultra-wide camera with an f/2.2 lens and a 122-degree field of view. The display boasts a 50MP shooter with an f/2.2 lens embedded into the display with a punch-hole cutout.
There’s a 6.5-inch Pro IGZO OLED display with a 240Hz refresh rate and 1,500 nits peak brightness. The device has stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos.
Unlike its predecessors that bring the flagship Qualcomm chipsets, Aquos R9 settles for a mid-range Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 chipset and 12GB of RAM. The phone boots Android 14 and packs a 5,000 mAh battery. Sharp has also added IP68 and MIL-STD-810H water and dust resistance.
The Aquos R9 comes in white and green colors. Prices are yet to be announced. Sharp did confirm that the phone will launch in Japan from mid-July.
Sharp Aquos wish4
The Aquos wish4 is equipped with a 6.6-inch IPS LCD of HD+ resolution and Dimensity 700 chipset backed by 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The phone has a 26mm-equivalent 50MP main camera with an f/1.8 lens and an 8MP front-facing camera housed in a waterdrop notch.
The software side is covered by Android 14. The phone features a 5,000 mAh battery and is IP68 and MIL-STD-810H certified like the Aquos R9. The case for the phone is made from 60% recycled plastic.
Aquos wish4 comes in black, blue, and white colors. Sharp hasn’t revealed pricing details, but the phone will be available in Japan alongside the Aquos R9 from mid-July.
