During the Miami GP, Max Verstappen crashed into a post at the chicane and damaged the floor of his F1 car. According to Red Bull team boss Christian Horner, this caused quite a loss of time.
A damaged F1 car is of course not ideal, but the big question is how much time Max Verstappen lost per lap due to the damage to his F1 car. Team boss Christian Horner speaks of significant damage and also significant loss of time.
“He hit the post around lap 20 and that caused quite a bit of damage to the underside of his car,” said Horner. “We will have to see what exactly the effect was.”
“But at that moment he had enough speed, he drove away from Oscar Piastri behind him and Lando before he suffered the damage.”
“He lost two and a half tenths every lap in the first corner. Whether that was due to the damage, when you look at the photos of what was missing from his car, it certainly wasn’t designed that way.”
