The Mercedes F1 team has had its worst start to the season since 2012 and according to George Russell there will be no improvement in the short term. Russell therefore thinks that Mercedes is facing some difficult races.
Mercedes is having its third difficult F1 season in a row, with very disappointing results this year in particular. With only 64 points during the first six races, Mercedes has had its weakest start to the season since 2012. In Miami, Mercedes was again not competitive at all and does not immediately expect strong progress like at McLaren.
“McLaren qualified P17 and P18 in Miami 12 months ago and now they are winning, it shows what is possible when you get things done right,” said Russell after the race in Miami. “But now, things are not getting right and that urgently needs to change.”
“We have some things coming up in the short term but nothing in the short term that is going to make us a race winner.”
“It’s going to be a few painful weeks. I think we have to accept that we are the fourth fastest team.”
“The lap times and the championship don’t lie, this is the situation we are in and I think we will be fighting for fifth to eighth place week after week.”
