A few hours ago, we heard a rumour that the successor to Apple’s iPhone 16 Plus might be named iPhone 17 Slim. With this new name, we speculated that it would be the thinnest member of the iPhone 17 family, but the change seemed quite significant.
When coupled with the news that its screen will be smaller than both the currently available iPhone 15 Plus and the upcoming iPhone 16 Plus, the name choice starts to make more sense. A reliable source, Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants, has provided an exact measurement for the diagonal screen size.
Young indicates that the iPhone 17 Slim’s screen will measure precisely 6.55 inches diagonally. This adds more precision to the previous report by analyst Jeff Pu, who simply noted it as “6.6 inches.”
Currently, the iPhone 15 Plus boasts a 6.7-inch screen, and its next model is likely to maintain this size. However, the Pro Max variant increases to 6.9 inches, suggesting that Apple may be pushing consumers towards the Pro Max for the largest screen size option versus the more affordable Plus variant. There are also rumours circulating about the iPhone 16 Pro Max growing to 6.9 inches and the iPhone 17 Pro Max maintaining that size, while the iPhone 17 Slim will be smaller.
It’s important to remember that despite the reliability of sources, we are still approximately 18 months away from the launch of the iPhone 17 family, so many details could change before then.
