Reports of the Nintendo Switch 2 launch have been circulating for a while, but the brand has not officially confirmed anything. However, Nintendo has now indirectly confirmed the launch of the next-generation Switch.
The announcement was made by Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa. Here’s what you need to know about the Nintendo Switch 2 launch.
Nintendo Switch 2 Set to Launch Before March 2025
Furukawa took to Twitter to announce a Nintendo Direct event scheduled for June. The event will focus on the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024. Furukawa clarified that the next-generation Switch console will not be mentioned at the upcoming event.
This is Furukawa, the president. For the first time in nine years since the existence of the Nintendo Switch was announced in March 2015, we will make an announcement regarding the successor to the Switch during this period. Additionally, we will be holding a Nintendo Direct in June to announce the Switch software lineup for the second half of 2024, but we will not be covering successor models. Please avoid any misunderstanding.

Despite the buzz around the Switch 2, Furukawa mentioned that the successor to the Nintendo Switch 2 will be announced within this fiscal year before March 31, 2025. While there is no official confirmation about the next Switch console, it won’t be available soon.
The post mentions that there will be an announcement and not a launch. The brand announced the original Nintendo Switch in 2015. However, the handheld gaming console did not go on sale until 2017. This suggests that the successor to the Nintendo Switch might take a couple of years to launch after the official announcement this year.
