Yesterday, Samsung started pushing out the One UI 6.1 update, which includes the Galaxy AI features introduced in January, to the Galaxy S22 range in Korea. However, less than a day later, it appears that the rollout has been halted. It’s worth noting that while yesterday’s rollout encompassed many more devices, it seems to have been specifically paused for the Galaxy S22 series.
The reason behind this pause, as is often the case in such scenarios, is a bug. Ensuring the quality of software updates can be a challenging task, but it shouldn’t be hard to identify such a glaring issue – in this instance, the malfunctioning lock screen and touch screen after the update.
Fortunately, the bug has not been detected on the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4 yet, so the update rollout continues for those devices. It has also been noticed on the Galaxy S21 series, but it appears to be more limited to those devices, so the update is still underway for them.
While Samsung has received praise for the swift rollout of recent updates to a wide range of devices within a short timeframe, incidents like this should not happen in supposedly stable builds. Hopefully, there will be improvements in quality control for future updates.
The positive aspect in this situation is that the rollout of One UI 6.1 for the Galaxy S22 had only just started in Korea before the bug was discovered, indicating that other markets may not be impacted. We will keep you updated once the rollout recommences.
