Max Verstappen will remain with Red Bull for the time being. The three-time world champion put an end to the transfer rumors before the Miami GP after the departure of top designer Adrian Newey. “It is not as dramatic as it seems,” said the Dutchman.
The departure of mastermind Adrian Newey from Red Bull has been the talk of the town in the F1 world in recent days. Rumors soon emerged in the German press that Max Verstappen would also visit other places. Mercedes, among others, where a spot will become available next year due to the departure of Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari, was mentioned. High time for the Dutchman to provide clarity for the GP in Miami.
“My future lies with Red Bull, at the moment,” Verstappen confirmed. “I have learned that I should not always say everything in the media, because that is of no use to anyone. I understand that Toto (Wolff, Mercedes team boss, ed.) is interested and optimistic, but again: at the moment I can only say that I want to stay with the team. Because I believe in this project.” Yet the Dutchman leaves the door ajar. “But of course you never know what happens in sports and in life. Never say never.”

“Not so dramatic”
Verstappen also briefly reflected on the departure of top designer Adrian Newey. “I’m not going to lie: I would have preferred if he had stayed. Because of his knowledge and also because he is a great person. When Adrian started at Red Bull he was very important for the successes achieved. Over the years, his role has changed somewhat. I think some people don’t know that. From the outside it seems very dramatic, but if you know what is going on within the team it is not as dramatic as it seems.”
Lewis Hamilton: “Newey’s arrival would be enormous added value”
Ferrari is one of the teams with which Newey, who can start elsewhere in 2025, is linked. Lewis Hamilton would love to see his compatriot come to Italy. Hamilton will exchange Mercedes for Ferrari after this year.
“With all the knowledge he has, he would be of enormous added value,” said Hamilton. “There are already a lot of good people working at Ferrari and they are making a lot of progress, but it would be a privilege to work with Adrian. If there’s anyone I’d like to work with, it’s him. At the same time, I don’t expect Red Bull to suddenly stop building a competitive car. There is a whole team involved.”
