Netflix has released the first images of the miniseries it made about the life of Ayrton Senna. The trailer was released yesterday, a day before the 30th anniversary of the Brazilian F1 legend’s death.
The six-episode series was produced by the Brazilian branch of the streaming giant and was announced in 2020. It was planned to air in 2022.
The story begins with Senna’s arrival in Britain and shows how he won two Formula Ford championships and how he became a big name in F1.
In the trailer we see Senna at work in the British GP in 1991 and also how he wins his home race for the first time despite the fact that his car was stuck in gear during the closing laps and it starts to rain. Flashbacks are also shown to his early days in karting, his second place with Toleman in the 1984 Monaco GP and his first victory for Lotus in Portugal.
The series was shot in two locations in Brazil, his home city of Sao Paulo where the Brazilian GP now takes place and in Rio de Janeiro, where racing used to take place at the now demolished Jacarepagua circuit. Filming also took place in Great Britain, Argentina and Uruguay. The role of Senna is played by Gabriel Leone.
Collaboration took place with Senna’s family and their company around the Senna brand, which manages the use of the identity and raises money for the ‘Ayrton Senna Institute.’ The founder of the ‘Ayrton Senna Institute’ is Vivian, the sister of the late F1 hero.
Senna’s life was already told in 2010 in a film called ‘Senna’ using original images.
