After days of speculation, it has now been officially confirmed: Adrian Newey will leave the Red Bull F1 team at the beginning of 2025.
Red Bull announced the departure of Adrian Newey in a press release. Newey, who has worked for Red Bull Racing since 2006, will leave Red Bull during the first quarter of 2025. Under his leadership of the design department, Red Bull Racing managed to win six constructors’ titles and seven drivers’ titles. Sebastian Vettel was crowned world champion four times, Max Verstappen three times.
Adrian Newey will gradually withdraw from design duties at Red Bull but will still be present at select races during the 2024 F1 season. Adrian Newey will also remain involved in completing Red Bull’s first hypercar, the RB17, which will be unveiled during the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Red Bull says that Newey will remain involved until the project is completed.
According to the Italian ‘Gazzetta dello Sport’, it would have taken only a few hours of negotiations at Red Bull Racing’s headquarters in Milton Keynes to reach an agreement on the early termination of Newey’s contract, which normally ran until the end of 2025.
In recent days there have been rumors that Aston Martin and Ferrari will be two important candidates as a new employer for Adrian Newey. According to the same ‘Gazzetta dello Sport’, Ferrari would become Adrian Newey’s new employer. Team boss Frederic Vasseur reportedly did not travel to Miami yesterday, but first made a stopover in London to meet Adrian Newey and put an agreement on paper.
An official announcement of the agreement between Adrian Newey and Ferrari would not be until after the Miami GP.
