Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz is currently playing a key role in determining the race seats for the 2025 F1 season. There is a lot of interest in Sainz but the Spaniard also makes it clear that there is a difficulty in determining where he goes.
There would be very strong and concrete interest in Carlos Sainz from Audi and Mercedes. Audi has now announced that Nico Hulkenberg will drive for the Stake F1 team, the predecessor of the Audi F1 team, from next season. Sainz himself is not yet under contract.
“All options are possible for me at the moment as I don’t have a contract yet for next year, I have to consider all possible options,” said Sainz. “Given the major rule changes in 2026, it seems a bit like ‘heads or tails’. It is currently impossible to know who will be okay by then.”
According to Sainz, any driver who finds himself at the top in 2026 will have to admit that he was lucky rather than that he made the right choice based on predictions.
“When I make the decision about where to race in 2026 and 2027, it doesn’t matter how much you talk to the teams, what they try to sell you about how good their car is, the reality is no one knows,” said Sainz. “If someone wins in 2026, I don’t think it will be because they made a smart decision, it’s just a matter of being in the right place at the right time.”
“As far as 2025 is concerned, I think given the level I am showing now and how well I am driving at the moment, a competitive car is certainly attractive.”
“But again, it doesn’t depend on me, I have to wait and see.”
