Tempered glass lens protectors for the upcoming Xperia 1 VI and 10 VI have appeared on Japan’s Rakuten marketplace ahead of the Xperia launch event scheduled for May 17. The noteworthy aspect is that both protectors are physically larger than those of their predecessors and have wider apertures, which can result in larger camera sensors.

The lens protector for the Xperia 1 VI is 1.5 x 5.2 cm in size compared to the 1.3 x 4.9 cm structure on the Xperia V, while the one for the Xperia 10 VI is 1.6 x 3.3 cm, which is also physically larger than the camera island area on its predecessor. There is a possibility that these larger camera islands are purely for aesthetics and that the sensors inside them remain unchanged.

An earlier rumor this month claimed that the Xperia 1 VI will use the same camera sensors as its predecessor – a 24mm 48 MP main shooter (f/1.9 aperture and 1/1.35″ sensor), a 16mm 12 MP ultrawide (f/2.2 and 1/2.5″ sensor), and an 85-125mm 12 MP telephoto (1/3.5″ sensor and continuous zoom). Sony is expected to offer software improvements.
Recently leaked renders for the Xperia 1 VI have shown a design that looks identical to the Xperia 1 V with a tall 6.5-inch display sporting a new aspect ratio, departing from the 21:9 ratio seen on previous models. Sony is also rumored to drop the 4K resolution on its flagship phone. The device is expected to launch with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and up to 16GB of RAM.
