After some recent leaks, Qualcomm has officially unveiled the Snapdragon X Plus platform for laptops. It represents a slight downgrade from the Snapdragon X Elite, featuring a 10-core Oryon CPU clocked at speeds up to 3.4GHz (compared to the 12-core Elite) and up to 64GB of RAM with 135GB/s bandwidth.
Despite these differences, the X Plus boasts a 45 TOPS NPU, which Qualcomm claims is the fastest NPU for laptops in the world. The X Plus is expected to deliver outstanding performance, long battery life, and cutting-edge AI capabilities on laptops.
Qualcomm showcased various features of the X Plus platform, including code generation in Visual Studio Code from Codegen, music generation in Audacity using on-device Riffusion AI, and live subtitles in OBS Studio for real-time translation of spoken languages into live subtitles using on-device Whisper.
Laptops powered by this chip, in addition to the X Elite, are expected to be available from leading global OEMs by mid-year.
The Oryon CPU in the X Plus delivers 37% faster performance compared to some competitors, while consuming up to 54% less power. The chip supports LPDDR5x, features 42MB of total cache, and is built on a 4nm process. The X Plus supports 3 external displays at 4K HDR (up to 60 Hz), Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, an advanced camera ISP, and “comprehensive lossless audio.”
