Last year, EV maker Nio launched its own smartphone, and it seems to have started a frenzy among its competitors. Today, right on schedule, Polestar announced its first smartphone, the innovative Polestar Phone, after several weeks of leaks, rumors, and teasers – yesterday we even saw a pre-announcement unboxing video.
The Polestar phone is made by Meizu and based on the Chinese company’s 21 Pro device, which was unveiled in February. This is no coincidence, as both Polestar and Meizu are owned by the Chinese car giant Geely.
The Polestar Phone comes with pure “Scandinavian design aesthetics of extreme simplicity and luxury”, and even the logo on the back is “glory, understated, and not obvious”, according to a machine translation from Chinese. If you’re wondering why we’re translating details about the handset from Chinese, it’s because the Polestar Phone was only launched for that market.
The device has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC at the helm, a 6.79-inch 1368×3192 120 Hz LTPO OLED display made by BOE and capable of 1,850-nit peak brightness, an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint reader, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB storage, a triple rear camera system (50 MP main with OIS, 13 MP ultra-wide, 10 MP 3x telephoto with OIS), a 32 MP selfie camera, and a 5,050 mAh battery with support for 80W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 10W reverse charging wireless charging.

The phone is IP68 rated for dust and water resistance. It measures 164.98 x 74.42 x 7.98mm and weighs 214g. It is only offered in one color called Polestar White. By the way, the specifications are identical to those of the Meizu 21 Pro. Apparently, the only way to order a Polestar phone is through the Polestar app.
Of course, the main selling point for this device is its close integration with the Polestar cars – currently it only works with the Polestar 4. The Polestar Phone also has UWB hardware, but no support for it yet; that will come later through an update that enables the digital car key. The same goes for an AI gallery generative image creation function, an AI-assisted import function, as well as Polestar Link for seamless interconnection with other cars besides the Polestar 4.
