563 kilometers is the official range of the Kia EV9 RWD with 99.8 kWh. But what is the real reach? So how far will you get if you drive down the highway at 100 km/h (or 130 km/h)? We test that!
The Kia EV9 has such a large battery (99.8 kWh), that we have high expectations of its real range. Our reasoning is simple: if the 204 hp EV9 RWD manages to stay close to 20 kWh/100 km on the highway, then a realistic range of 500 kilometers lies ahead. This turns out to be quite correct.
Battery capacity and weather conditions
First the battery: Come on communicates a capacity of 99.8 kWh and according to our experiences there is 96.2 kWh at your disposal. That’s how much energy goes through if you drive a full battery (100%) completely empty (0%). Presumably, the remaining 3.6 kWh is a buffer below zero percent.
The weather conditions are variable: a friendly 14 degrees during the day, but in the evening after 7 pm the mercury drops to 4 degrees. We drive a 100 kilometer long test route and use the resulting power consumption to calculate the range of a full battery.
