For the third race in a row (on Sunday), Lewis Hamilton finished ninth, only during yesterday’s sprint race Hamilton finished second. Hamilton had to start the race from P18 on the grid and calls today’s race his worst of the season.
After finishing the sprint race in second, Hamilton was eliminated during qualifying in Q1. Hamilton had to start the race from eighteenth place. After the spin race, Hamilton had decided to change his setup compared to Russell’s.
“The race was no better than expected, we expected to finish around this position,” Hamilton reflects on his race. “I thought at the start that I might have hit someone because I never had so much understeer in my life.”
“I turned in at low speed and I was waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting for the car to turn. I thought that I might have damaged the car because there was a lot of debris on the track at one point, but it was just because of the setting I had chosen.”
“It was the worst race so far, but we came second in the sprint race and with some better setup decisions I would have been around George’s position. We just have to keep working.”
