After the Chinese GP, the stewards have decided to impose a grid penalty of three places on Daniel Ricciardo for the next race.
Daniel Ricciardo was involved in an incident with Lance Stroll during the race, which ultimately led to his retirement. This was a disappointing development as Ricciardo was having a strong race weekend, and to make matters worse, Lance Stroll shifted the blame for the collision onto him. However, the troubles did not end there for Ricciardo.
The stewards initiated an investigation into Ricciardo for a potential infringement during a safety car period. It was later determined that Ricciardo had illegally overtaken Nico Hulkenberg. Hulkenberg had passed Ricciardo under the safety car conditions after the Australian racer had been forced off the track by Lance Stroll. Although Ricciardo attempted to reclaim his position, the stewards deemed that this overtaking maneuver was not permissible during a safety car period.
As a result of this infringement, Ricciardo has been handed a three-place grid penalty for the upcoming race in Miami. Along with the grid penalty, he has also been given two penalty points by the stewards.
