After the Chinese GP, Daniel Ricciardo was livid. Ricciardo was struck by Stroll during the restart and ultimately had to retire. Ricciardo is particularly angry about Stroll’s comments regarding the collision post-race.
Lance Stroll collided with Daniel Ricciardo from behind, causing him to collide with the car in front and sending him airborne. Ricciardo’s F1 car sustained significant damage, forcing him to retire. A disappointing end to what had been a more than respectable race weekend for Ricciardo.
Following the race, Ricciardo was naturally questioned about the incident. Initially, after his retirement, Ricciardo appeared to respond calmly, but eventually, he grew extremely frustrated with Lance Stroll’s stance on the crash. The Canadian denied any responsibility for the incident.
“Maybe in an hour, when he reviews it again, he will accept some responsibility. But if he doesn’t, then I can’t help him, no one can,” expressed a frustrated Daniel Ricciardo. “It’s so frustrating. Of course, incidents occur during races, but behind the safety car, something like that should never happen.”
“What really infuriated me is that I watched it onboard, just to see it from his perspective. As soon as we begin braking, you see his helmet turn to the right, he’s focusing on the apex of Turn 14, he’s not even looking at me. And when he looks back, he’s already into my car.”
“I don’t know what he’s doing, where his mind is, but all he has to do in a situation like that is be concerned about me, and he clearly did not do that. Let’s wait and see what else he tells the media, but when he approaches me, I will have more to say…
