Canalys has released a detailed report on the Indian smartphone market during the first quarter of 2024. It was a hotly contested quarter with little separating the top 3 smartphone vendors – Samsung, Xiaomi, and vivo.
The market reached 35.3 million sales, an increase of almost 5 million or 15% compared to the first quarter of 2023.
Samsung was the biggest seller with 6.7 million units shipped, Xiaomi was second with 6.4 million, and vivo was third with 6.2 million. Oppo (without OnePlus) scored 3.7 million, while realme had 3.4 million.
Samsung’s successful Galaxy S24 launch paid dividends with increased demand, a strong AI-focused campaign, and typically strong pre-sale bonuses. Xiaomi’s mass-market 5G strategy has also been successful, fueled by the likes of the Redmi 13C 5G and the Redmi Note 13 5G series.
Motorola, Infinix, and Apple all posted double-digit growth. Apple’s iPhone 15 model stood out thanks to several price cuts and promotions.
