Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has made it clear that he wants to discuss his transition to Ferrari with Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff.
Lewis Hamilton will leave Mercedes at the end of this season to switch to Ferrari. The big question, however, is how smoothly that transition to Ferrari will go. On the one hand, Hamilton wants to respect his commitment to Mercedes this season, but on the other hand, Hamilton also wants to have the best possible start at Ferrari.
The big question is how Mercedes will continue to exchange information with Hamilton this season, while Hamilton himself is also looking for what to do next. The last time Hamilton knew he was going to another team, it was only much later in the season that he knew he was leaving McLaren.
“I think I will talk to Toto because I don’t really know which direction to go, what to do,” said Hamilton. “I’ve never been in this position before at this point in the year.”
“When I left McLaren it was towards the end of the season. I couldn’t go to Mercedes until sometime in December, when I tried on my first seat, after the season was over.”
“I don’t really have any idea how things will go now.”
Hamilton’s goal this season is mainly to win again with Mercedes, Hamilton’s last victory dates back to the Saudi Arabian GP in 2021.
“At the moment I want to leave Mercedes on a high,” said Hamilton. All my energy goes towards that. Of course, there is excitement for the future. But we are currently going through a difficult period. That is where my challenge lies.”
That’s where all my energy goes, trying to figure out how we can get back to the top. How can I collaborate with these guys? How can I give better debriefings, give them better direction to get back to the top?”
“I am a competitive person, I want to win. Just thinking about next year isn’t going to help me.”
