McLaren driver Lando Norris is still yet to achieve his first victory in Formula 1. If we can believe him, this will not happen in the short term, at least not without the help of bad luck or exceptional circumstances.
According to Norris, the McLaren MCL38 is an F1 car that may be able to win races in the future, but currently McLaren is too slow to triumph during the races under its own power and without outside help, according to Lando Norris. According to Norris, this will not change any time soon.
“Definitely not in the short term,” said Norris when asked about McLaren’s ability to win races. “I think we can do it. In the right place, at the right time. I think we have to improve our car to make that possible.”
“To be honest, there weren’t too many frustrations with the Suzuka race. Everything went pretty much as expected. I don’t think we did it perfectly and we probably should and could have finished one place higher, but I don’t think we were that far off.”
According to Lando Norris, McLaren clearly needs to further develop the MCL38 in order to compete with Ferrari and especially Red Bull.
“We’ve been in the same place all the time so far this season,” said Norris. “We were behind Red Bull and Ferrari and a bit ahead of the other two teams during the race. That’s exactly how it happened last race weekend.”
