Last year Fernando Alonso scored noticeably more points than teammate Lance Stroll and this season too the balance of power seems to be about the same. However, the start of the season is more difficult for Aston Martin and Alonso says he needs the help of his teammate to get the most out of the car.
“Lance and myself are trying to help the team as much as possible,” said Alonso. “I think we have two different driving styles under the same conditions, we both have a different feeling in the car.”
“Lance is much more sensitive to certain things than I am, which is important for the team. I think the analysis that Lance can provide to the team is crucial for us to improve the car.”
“Sometimes I’m a bit insensitive to certain things and that’s not a good thing. I think we’re both trying to help Aston Martin as much as we can and I think the direction we’re going in terms of developing the car and finalizing the set-up over a weekend is exactly the same. We might arrive in a different way while the same conditions apply and I think those two different styles are good for Aston Martin.”
“Sometimes I try to drive around the problems we have, and that’s good because I can drive any car and get 90 percent out of it.”
“But to get 100 percent out of it, the full potential of the car, I sometimes can’t do that without the help of my teammate in terms of special details in terms of setup or problems with the balance here and there.”
“I think we benefit from each other in many different ways, which is very good.”
