Sony announced the Xperia 1 V on May 11 last year, and it seems the Japanese company plans to stick to almost exactly the same timeline in 2024. According to a leaked poster from Weibo, Sony is going to hold an Xperia launch event on May 17.
The poster itself doesn’t specify which phone(s) will be officially launched on that date, but it’s safe to assume that the Xperia 1 VI, which has been frequently leaking, could be the star of the event.
The upcoming Xperia flagship is anticipated to ditch the 4K screen and the 21:9 tall aspect ratio, opting for a more standard solution in both departments. The Xperia 1 VI will therefore have a shorter and wider form factor compared to its predecessor.
Recent rumors suggest that it will feature the same rear camera setup as the Xperia 1 V, with enhancements primarily through software processing. It won’t be surprising to see the prevalent use of the “AI” technology narrative, as it continues to be a trend this year.
Furthermore, the Xperia 1 VI is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, coupled with at least 12GB of RAM.
