This weekend, Guanyu Zhou will make history by being the very first Chinese F1 driver to appear at the start of the Chinese GP. Zhou says he is completely ready for it.
Guanyu Zhou made his Formula 1 debut in 2022, but since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, the Chinese GP was no longer on the F1 calendar. It is now a historic moment for both Guanyu Zhou himself and Formula 1 that he is the very first Chinese to appear at the start of the Chinese GP.
“I couldn’t be more excited to finally be racing ‘home’ in Shanghai,” says Guanyu Zhou in the Stake F1 team’s preview of the Chinese GP. “To be the first Chinese rider to participate in the Chinese GP means a lot to me. It brings enormous joy, pride, and responsibility.”
“It’s not just a race for me: after four years off the calendar, the championship returns and with a Chinese rider on the starting grid. We are going to make history.”
“This is an opportunity to inspire a future generation and instill an interest in the sport. We have already seen from ticket sales what kind of passion awaits us. The tickets sold out in just a few hours. My country loves racing and has been waiting for this moment for years.”
