A Google Insider has shared some exciting news about the upcoming foldable smartphone from Google. Instead of launching the Pixel Fold 2, Google is said to be preparing to introduce the Pixel 9 Pro Fold as the second generation of its foldable device. The new smartphone is being developed under the codename “Comet.”
According to reports, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will be part of the Google Pixel 9 series, which will also include the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL. The codenames for these devices are Tokay, Caiman, and Komodo, respectively. The information about these upcoming smartphones was spotted in the software built for them, although the final name of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold may change before its release.
Renowned tipster Ross Young has provided some details about the specifications of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The smartphone is expected to feature a large 8.02-inch inner screen, making it significantly larger than its predecessor, the Pixel Fold. Additionally, the device will come with a 6.29-inch cover screen for convenient use when folded.
Leaked CAD renders of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold suggest that the unfolded dimensions of the device will be 155.2 x 150.2 x 5.27 mm, while the folded dimensions will measure 152 x 77.1 x 10.54 mm. The right side of the smartphone will house the power button and volume rockers for easy access.
One of the notable features of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will be the inclusion of an under-display selfie camera, a first for a Google Pixel foldable device. The device will also be equipped with triple cameras on the rear along with an LED flash for capturing high-quality photos and videos.
