Google is looking to change people’s perceptions of its foldable smartphone efforts. The follow-up to last year’s Pixel Fold was expected to be the Pixel Fold 2, but a new report today claims it has been renamed and will actually be sold as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
Additionally, as previously rumored, this device could make its debut at Google’s annual hardware unveiling event in October, rather than at Google I/O in May like its predecessor.

Therefore, in October, Google might announce not two smartphones as usual, but four. The lineup may include the Pixel 9, the Pixel 9 Pro, the Pixel 9 Pro XL, and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL are successors to the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, while the Pixel 9 Pro is expected to be smaller in size but with upgraded specifications. All of these devices are expected to use the upcoming Tensor G4 SoC.
The switch from Pixel Fold 2 to Pixel 9 Pro Fold occurred recently in internal Google communications. However, please note that things may change again before the release.
