Stoffel Vandoorne (DS Penske) had to retire on Sunday in the second ePrix of Misano, the seventh round of the Formula E world championship. The German Pascal Wehrlein (TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team) took the win in Italy.
The British Oliver Rowland (Nissan Formula E team) seemed to be on his way to victory, but collapsed completely after technical problems in the final lap. The 29-year-old Wehrlein, a former F1 driver, was still able to celebrate his second victory of the season. He was flanked on the podium by Briton Jake Dennis (Andretti Formula E), the reigning champion, and New Zealander Nick Cassidy (Jaguar TCS Racing).
In the world championship standings, Wehrlein and Dennis share the lead with 89 points. Vandoorne, the 2022 world champion, is eleventh with 22 points.
On Saturday, Vandoorne finished tenth in the first Misano ePrix. After the disqualification of the Portuguese winner Antonio Félix Da Costa (Porsche) and several time penalties, he moved up to eighth place. The British Oliver Rowland (Nissan Formula E Team) could call himself the new GP laureate.
In two weeks (April 27), the World Championship for electric cars will move to Monaco for the eighth round. The championship is then halfway over.
