Yet the GP victory was just not possible. Dutch World Cup leader Kay de Wolf (Husqvarna) finished second and first respectively and took the overall victory because the second round is decisive in the event of a tie. Third place on the final podium went to South African Camden McLellan (Triumph), who finished third and sixth in the two heats.
Liam Everts (KTM) finished the Grand Prix in fifth after an eighth and fourth place. Sacha Coenen (KTM) finished ninth in the final score after a thirteenth and sixth place.
Thanks to his GP victory, De Wolf consolidates his leading position in the World Championship standings. He counts 170 points. His first pursuer, the German Simon Längenfelder (GasGas), has 141 points. Längenfelder finished fourth on Sunday. Third place in the World Cup standings belongs to Lucas Coenen, with 124 points. Sacha Coenen is tenth, with 77 points, the same number as number eleven Liam Everts.
In the MXGP class, Spaniard Jorge Prado (GasGas) won the Grand Prix, ahead of Slovenian Tim Gajser (Honda) and Dutchman Jeffrey Herlings (KTM). The three finished, in that order, in both heats. The two Belgians in the MXGP, Jago Geerts (collarbone and elbow) and Brent Van Doninck (thighbone), both suffered fractures in falls in the qualifying rounds of the opening round in Patagonia at the beginning of March, and are out for a longer period of time.
