WhatsApp’s Picture-in-Picture mode is receiving a highly anticipated upgrade. The popular WhatsApp beta tracking publication, WABetaInfo, has discovered a new feature in the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.7.10.73 update. Let’s explore the new feature.
WhatsApp PiP Mode will Soon Support Shared Videos
According to the report, WhatsApp users will soon be able to watch videos shared directly with them in chats in picture-in-picture mode. This will enable users to watch the video in a floating window while using WhatsApp. Previously, when users clicked on a shared video, it would open in full-screen, restricting the use of the app.
However, the feature won’t work if a user switches to another app. Currently, the feature is under development, and we can expect it to be available to general users on Android and iOS in the near future.
WhatsApp introduced the picture-in-picture mode on its platform back in February 2023. The feature allowed users to watch videos hosted on third-party services like YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram without leaving the app. Previously, clicking video links would redirect users to the browser and exit WhatsApp.
The PiP mode was a welcomed change as users could continue chatting with their contacts while watching shared videos via links—an enhancement that significantly improved the video viewing experience for users. In addition, the company recently introduced new video playback options for iOS users.
Users of WhatsApp on iOS can easily skip forward or rewind video messages by double-tapping the edge of the display making it more convenient compared to using a playback slider to fast forward or rewind.
