After a dry first practice session, the drivers in Japan were faced with rain at the start of the second practice session. There was little action on the track, so the teams and drivers were waiting for it to be a little drier, as dry weather was predicted for the rest of the race weekend and then gaining experience on a wet track is less important.

Ultimately, Oscar Piastri was the fastest in his McLaren F1 car, but given the rainy conditions and the fact that there was virtually no driving, the lap times of this practice session do not mean much.
