Last Friday, Amaury Bertholom and Melchior Wathelet, Chairman of the Board of Directors, explained the upcoming motorsport season at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit during a press conference and also announced 40 million pounds in additional investments in the circuit.
This year too, many races will take place at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. The 6 hours in the WEC, the 100th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Spa and the Formula 1 Grand Prix are the most important events. Spa-Francorchamps currently also has a contract to organize an F1 race in 2025, but what after that?
However, this uncertainty does not prevent the owners of the circuit from making major investments in the coming years, after the massive investments in recent years. Additional infrastructure work will take place. For example, a one kilometre guardrail has been installed and new access roads will also be created. The water drainage of the circuit will also be further improved with new gutters and drainages.
The circuit itself will also be partially resurfaced in the coming years, this should provide more grip. By demolishing some old buildings, the paddock will be enlarged and the parking spaces and campsites will also have a new layout.
In total, there is an investment of no less than 40 million pounds that will be spread over the period 2024-2028. The financing of the investments will be fully borne by the circuit itself.
It is clear that the Spa-Francorchamps circuit is gearing up for a promising future with these significant investments. The commitment to improving the infrastructure, facilities, and overall experience for visitors and participants alike demonstrates the circuit’s dedication to remaining a top destination for motorsport enthusiasts.
With the announcement of hosting key events such as the 6 hours in the WEC and the Formula 1 Grand Prix, as well as the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Spa, the circuit is set to attract a diverse range of motorsport fans from around the world.
One of the most exciting aspects of the upcoming developments is the plan to resurface parts of the circuit. This not only enhances the safety of the track but also aims to improve the performance of the vehicles on the road, providing a more challenging and thrilling racing experience for drivers.
The expansion of the paddock, as well as the redesign of parking spaces and campsites, will accommodate more visitors and ensure a more comfortable and convenient stay for all attendees. By modernizing and upgrading these areas, the circuit is setting a new standard for motorsport venues.
The commitment to investing in the future of the Spa-Francorchamps circuit is a testament to the dedication and passion of all those involved in the project. With the financial support secured for the next few years, the circuit is well-positioned to continue growing and evolving, offering exciting opportunities for both fans and participants.
