According to the German ‘F1 Insider’, Red Bull Racing is said to be in very serious talks with Fernando Alonso for a race seat in 2025. The negotiations are said to be already at an advanced stage.
The rumors surrounding Fernando Alonso and a possible switch to Red Bull Racing or Mercedes have been doing the rounds for some time. According to ‘F1 Insider’, the choice now fell on Red Bull racing. The now 42-year-old Alonso would officially announce his first choice for Aston Martin, but is indeed in advanced negotiations with Red Bull and Christian Horner in particular.
It is striking that the division within Red Bull is once again clearly visible. The Austrian camp including Dr. Helmut Marko would prefer not to have Fernando Alonso come, but the Christian Horner camp, who has the backing of the Thai shareholders, would push for Alonso’s arrival.
According to the German medium, Christian Horner would like to prove how important his role is in Red Bull’s recent successes and that not everything depends solely on Max Verstappen. According to ‘F1 Insider’, the Verstappen camp has already been informed about the possible arrival of Fernando Alonso.
Verstappen should now consider whether he wants to compete within Red Bull with Fernando Alonso, a driver who would enjoy the full support of Christian Horner, or whether he wants to switch to another team early. Mercedes would be the most obvious choice.
Nothing official yet, but what is now clear three races into the season: the ‘silly season 2024’ is one to enjoy and is in stark contrast to the lack of movements on the driver market last year.
