According to Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur, Carlos Sainz surprised friend and foe by recovering so quickly after his appendectomy, being at top level again and winning the race.
“Last winter we agreed that we would push until the last round of the season,” said Vasseur. “He’s having a great time. In Bahrain he was there, he pushed the team. Jeddah was obviously a tough weekend, a tough weekend for Carlos, a tough weekend for the team.”
“But his recovery was mega. You have to keep in mind that he was in the hospital two weeks ago; I don’t think even on Friday he was 100 percent sure he would be able to race.”
“And after a few laps he had the speed, this is part of the success because if you want to perform, you cannot drop a single lap during the practice sessions.”
“This is certainly astonishing. When you see where he got today, no one expected such a result.”
What an effort! Bravo Carlos https://t.co/0tWvO2lUnj
