Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff will not be present in Japan at the end of next week. Toto Wolff’s absence would have nothing to do with Mercedes’ recent poor start to the season.
It was already decided prior to the start of the F1 season that Toto Wolff would miss the Japanese GP in Suzuka, just like last year. Last year Toto Wolff was also not present during the Japanese GP, when he had to undergo knee surgery. He also had to miss the race in Qatar.
Toto Wolff would be in ‘digital contact’ with the Mercedes F1 team in Suzuka via a video connection. In recent weeks, Toto Wolff’s position has come under increasing pressure due to a disappointing start to the season. Mercedes is currently only fourth in the Constructors’ Championship, having achieved 26 points and no podium finishes so far.
