A few weeks ago, we heard a rumour that Sony would drop the 4K screen from the next Xperia 1 model. This change would occur if the aspect ratio changed from 21:9 to 19.5:9, indicating that the vertical resolution would no longer be 3,840 px. This change will also affect the phone’s dimensions, and a new leak has revealed the updated values.
The Sony Xperia 1 VI is reportedly going to measure 162 x 74.4 x 8.45mm – this is 3mm shorter and 3mm wider (plus a bit) compared to the Xperia 1 V, which measures 165 x 71 x 8.3mm. Previous renderings suggest that Sony will maintain its traditional design with top and bottom bezels. This means that the loss of vertical space will not impact the presence of stereo speakers and a front-facing camera in the bezel rather than the screen.

Regarding the screen, it will measure 149.6 x 69.4mm, translating to a 19.4:9 aspect ratio and a 6.49” diagonal. Here’s how it compares to the Mark V display:

As shown, the screen loses some vertical space (2mm) but gains width (almost 5mm).
The Sony Xperia 1 VI is anticipated to be unveiled in May. A previous leak suggests that the phone will offer an option with more RAM, 16GB, while the base model will retain 12GB. This leak also mentions the Xperia 5 VI (only 8GB) and Xperia 10 VI (6/8GB), but it is uncertain if these models will also be revealed in May.
Thanks for the tip, Josip!
